Midland Garden by Nan Rochberg

On Sunday, October 1, U City in Bloom hosts its biennial Garden Tour in conjunction with its annual Plein Air Art Festival and Competition. The Tour takes place from 1 – 5 PM and highlights the Musick and Meridian neighborhoods located just north of Olive Boulevard on the east and west sides of Midland Avenue. The Musick subdivision was developed over a hundred years ago, and the original home of the developer, 7338 Wellington, will be open to visit as well as the garden. Appropriately, there will also be music in the Musick neighborhood, with local musicians performing in many of the gardens.

Plein air artists are welcome to paint anywhere in University City during the month of September as well as beginning at 9 AM during the day of the Tour. A reception follows the Tour at 5 PM at Centennial Commons (7210 Olive Blvd). Enjoy light refreshments and drinks while viewing the finished creations by the artists. The art work is for sale at the reception.

While on the Garden Tour, be sure to notice the triangular garden at the intersection of Wellington and Midland which has recently been enlarged and transformed by U City in Bloom. A winding path starts at the point of the intersection passing by the new trees and plantings to an inviting bench.
