Chitalpa – X Chitalpa tashkentensis

This is a hybrid tree whose name is a combination of the two “parent” trees: catalpa and desert willow (Chilopsis). It is very tolerant of high heat and is fast growing – several feet a year, up to 20-30 ft. Leaves are lance-like, 4-5 inches long and an inch wide. It produces pink or white flowers from late spring to late fall. The Chitalpa grows a multi-trunk structure that branches out in a unique pattern.
