Cornelian Cherry Dogwood – Cornus mas

Location: Millar Park, two, behind Canton sign

Cornelian cherry dogwood is a multi-branched deciduous shrub which can be pruned to grow as a small tree. Small star-like flowers appear in spring and are replaced by inconspicuous fruits which attract birds. The fruits can be made into syrup or jams. Deep green leaves turn purplish in fall and the bark exfoliates on mature branches.
