Eastern Redbud – Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’

Redbuds are known for their pink flowers which bloom on bare branches and trunks and heart shaped leaves, which make for easy identification by students. Brown flat pods are produced in the fall in great numbers and readily self-seed. They are subject to insect pests and diseases and require regular watering, fertilization and careful pruning of dead branches.
