Ginkgo – Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo, also known as maidenhair tree, is a deciduous, dioecious conifer native to China. It is the only surviving member of a group of plants that grew up to 150 million years ago.

Generally only fruitless male cultivars are grown; the female fruit splits open when it falls to the ground and has an extremely noxious odor. The distinctive dual lobed fan shaped leaves turn golden yellow in the fall.
