Serviceberry – Amelanchier arborea

Serviceberries are Missouri natives, generally growing as a multi-stem understory tree in open rocky woods, wooded slopes and bluffs. They feature white flowers in early spring, edible berries in late spring and brilliant yellow to red fall color. The berries, ripe when purple, are tasty and make good pie among other things, but hurry to pick them because birds love them too.
