Silver lindens are planted as shade trees in suburban areas, attaining an average height of 50 – 70 ft. The attractive foliage is glossy-green above and silvery-white and densely hairy underneath. Pale yellow flowers which appear in June and July attract a large numbers of bees. In late summer small nutlets appear which are attached by distinctive narrow strap-like wings. In Great Britain lindens are known as limes.
