About Us

History
U City in Bloom was started in 1985 by three women who wanted to beautify University City, Missouri. That year they planted 600 daffodils along Pershing Avenue near Jackson. Gradually more gardens and volunteers were added.  Today, U City in Bloom designs, plants and maintains over 200 flower beds and 100 planters all over the city.

U City in Bloom, a not-profit organization, is a community volunteer organization that partners with the City of University City to beautify our city through public gardens. We depend on our volunteers from University City and surrounding communities and organizations. Our funding comes from a variety of sources which include the city and school district of University City, individual and corporate donations; and our fundraising activities including our annual plant sale, bulb sale, and biennial fall garden tour ticket sales.

Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart of our organization. Our volunteers help with planting, weeding and watering our public garden locations, and of course, fundraising. Our budget is a modest one and every contribution counts! We have a job to fit every gardening passion and everyone’s busy schedule.

Donations
We depend on donations from individuals and corporations for everything we do to keep University City blooming.  Your tax deductible donation will help to purchase plants, maintain current gardens, and develop new gardens in the public areas of University City.
