What holds more promise and hope for the future than digging in some spring bulbs as winter approaches, or planting a young sapling to shade the next generation, or beginning a new garden? Forty years ago, Mary Ann Shaw, Jane Schaefer, and Susan Hopper decided to plant some daffodils along a city street to brighten up the neighborhood. This year we celebrate what has happened since that fall day in 1985 when three friends took the first steps towards what became U City in Bloom.
